So, I have had some interesting conversations with my 3-year old daughter about her baby brother lately. And I'm not talking about the ones where she asks how he got into my belly or why we can't put him back in there, either. (We have those a lot.) No, these conversations are much better and much, much funnier. Here is one we had a few days ago:
Daughter: "Mom, I just love being a big sister."
Me: "Well, that's good because you're going to be a big sister forever."
Daughter (jumping up and down and laughing): "Oh, Mom! Are we going to keep [brother] FOREVER?!"
So, obviously, she loves her baby brother. Or, so I thought. Until this little doozy we had just a few hours ago:
Me (very frustrated at my son who was getting into the kitchen cabinets again): "Little boy, why are you such a punk?"
Daughter (sighing and completely matching my exasperated tone of voice): "Mom, maybe we just shouldn't have a baby."
Me: "Well, it's a little late for that now; he's already here."
Daughter (thinking for a moment): "We could just break him."
I mean, honestly, what am I supposed to say to that? Besides the fact that I was a little scared that she actually thought of that solution, I was laughing too hard to explain to her how that probably wouldn't be such a great idea. Now I feel like I can't leave them alone in a room together or he might do something to tick her off and then what?
I'd have a broken baby, that's what.

These conversations will be classic in a couple years when they both can read and understand.
Mama says: Don't break the baby.
I go away for only a few days and THIS is what happens?!?!?!? I better get home soon. Although, I think [brother] could take her, so he should be fine.
That is hilarious and scary all at the same time.
I'm with chef...I think he could take her. One head butt and she's a goner.
Can you break a thirteen year-old?
CJane: I keep journals for my kids and these quotes are definitely going in there. I just can't wait for the boy to start walking, though. Then we'll see who does the breaking!
Chef and Sarita: Actually, for all his big-headedness, he is really just a mama's boy who wants to be held and cuddled whenever she tramples over him (which has been three times so far this morning and it's not even 8:30).
Montana Mom: Yes, yes you can. Just send your youngest in to do the job for you.
