ON FRIENDSHIP

So, my nearly 4 year old daughter called up her best friend to wish him a Happy Birthday this week. They lived their first two years side by side, hardly separated for more than a day. Now, they have lived two years apart and she still talks about him, asks about him, and wants to know when the heck she is ever going to see him again. Here is how their conversation went (I will call him E-O, as that was her first nickname for him, but some of you may know him as CJane's Phun):

Daughter: Hi

E-O: Hi

Daughter: Happy Birthday

E-O: Thanks

Daughter: What'd you get?

E-O: Some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and some cars

Daughter: I got a Polly Pocket in my Happy Meal.

E-O: Cool

Daughter: Bye

E-O: Bye

It was so darn cute I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. Or both, which is what I ended up doing. I could just picture them having the same awkward conversation in junior high, complete with monotone voices and nervous laughter.

So, here's to four years of friendship and hopefully a hundred more.

The day after she was born, he is three weeks old.

Just turning one.

A second birthday kiss.

Three.

I loved hearing their conversation too. Even more fun was hearing Phun tell his barber the other day about his girlfriend Lauren. It was adorable. I love those pictures too. We miss you guys. Are you going to be able to visit anytime soon?

Kentucky: We miss you guys, too. Like, a ridiculous amount. Lauren was just telling me today that she wanted to go to Utah to see you guys. I think our only chances to see you will be in TF in August. That is a long way away. Of course, you could always head out to the East Coast for some summer fun, if you wanted. No pressure.

Glad to hear you are doing well. Hooray for the end of cancer treatments!

I can't wait for the wedding. I was also lucky enough to be privy to this phone call. I melted.

The picture of Lauren and Phun kissing is priceless.
