I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M ABOUT TO SAY THIS. . .

Those of you who really know me will know what a departure from normal this post will be. I guess 10+ years of living with cold weather has changed me somehow. So, here it is :

The Top Ten Reasons I Love Winter
(in no particular order):

1. Flannel sheets

2. Nearly everyday, my daughter asks when it's going to snow so that we can "whitewash Daddy."

3. Christmas-themed TV commercials/movies/mall decorations/ward parties/etc. You name it; I'm a sucker for all things Christmas.

4. Bring on the comfort food! There is just something about eating a big, hearty, warm meal when it's freezing cold outside that is very satisfying.

5. Every morning when my kids wake up, they pile into bed with us to keep warm (see #1, above). We talk, laugh, wrestle, tickle, and snuggle together. It is the best quality family time anyone could ask for.

6. How my son absolutely refuses to leave on socks, hats, or blankets and is therefore always freezing. But, he loves to snuggle with me so I don't push the issue.

7. All the family traditions that come with the winter holidays. I especially love creating our own traditions for our growing family.

8. How, every night, my daughter sleeps under 4 fleece blankets and occasionally with her hat and mittens on, because she likes to be "so cozy."

9. The smell of winter--the cold, crisp air, pine trees, and fireplaces.

10. Playing in the snow (but not driving in it).

Happy winter, everyone!

What you would add to (or subtract from) this list?

I agree with everything but #5 because my kids are up before daylight and refuse to cuddle in bed with us.

I love a good mug of hot chocolate with whip cream and snuggling up to watch a movie with the snow falling outside, but I have to admit, I'd rather hang out at the pool or take the kids to the park!

Happy Winter! (and let's hope it's a short one!)

Yes! Hot chocolate and whipped cream! How could I forget? I especially love eating oatmeal for breakfast with the h.c./w.c. combo to drink. It just warms you up all day. Thanks for reminding me.

Ditto on almost everything. Surprize for me too -- I did not expect to feel this way after growing up snowless and the last eight years in Vegas. A couple of additions for me:
Cute kids bundled until all you can see is their eyes -- even the teenager. Dad hooky-bobbing the kids behind the ATV. And, top of my list, a good book with a comfortable chair in front of huge, sunny southern exposure windows with views to die for.

I'm thinking a 3-week Christmas vacation shouldn't be left off the list. Plus, I might add bustin' a fatty 50-50 over the 8-foot arched rail in the park...oh wait, I'm almost thirty...nevermind.

Chef: And then you have a concussion and try to hide it from your wife but she finds out anyway and your snowboarding days with Jer are over. I mean, honestly, he's in the medical profession, he should know better. And, you're an adult so, so should you.
