I feel like this blog has been a little "Baker heavy", but he really has been consuming most of our time/thoughts/energy lately. For one, he has discovered (like most little boys eventually do) that he can use violence to get his way. He mostly beats up on Lauren but has been known to hit me or Brian occasionally. He gets in big trouble for this--being sent to his room instead of the naughty step--but, in his typical laid back fashion doesn't really care all that much about being punished. He is also just so cute and funny that it is very difficult to be mad at him for more than a few seconds.
He has also discovered that when I am feeding Cameron or trying to get her to go to sleep there is not much I can do to stop his misbehavior. He really takes advantage of these opportunities to get into things he knows he isn't supposed to touch. It is probably pretty funny to see me rocking Cameron and trying to "yell" at Baker in a whisper-y voice to get down off the counter/desk/table or stop getting into the markers/fridge/scissors, etc. I usually enlist Lauren to take away whatever he has that he isn't supposed to have but then he just hits or kicks her, so that backfires on me every time.
Well, this little boy's world is about to fall apart. We are going to have to do a major diet overhaul for him which I'm afraid is going to lead to even more ornery-ness and tantrum throwing. We found out today that he has high cholesterol. For his age, it is supposed to range between 120-130. His is rockin' out at 189. Is that just alarming?! I was horrified. Our pediatrician tried to convince me that it is completely genetic because he is way too young to have this problem from diet and lifestyle. I know that that is true; it is totally hereditary. I also know that our kids are very healthy eaters and we do not allow an over-abundance of junk food. But now, we have to meet with a dietician for "nutrition counseling" and set up an exercise program for him. He is two. (Of course, he is too young for any medication to control the problem.) I'm sure it won't be as bad as I imagine, but I can just see us trying to get him to eat celery sticks and apples when he is begging for mac 'n cheese and hot dogs. I am suddenly very grateful that, right now, his favorite food is grapes. Hopefully, that will make all this a little easier.
Anyway, I am supposed to talk to the doctor again tomorrow to set up all the nutrition and exercise programs. I feel like I am dealing with an old, overweight man and not a happy, healthy toddler.
I do have to mention that when Brian took Baker in for his blood test (I absolutely REFUSED to go), Baker did not even respond to having his blood drawn. I have seen him cry with immunizations and he has gotten a few finger sticks that he surely didn't appreciate, but this was a full blood draw (with that awful rubber band thing around his arm, "digging" around because they couldn't find the vein and the big vial of blood) but he didn't even flinch. According to Brian, Baker just stared at the lady the whole time. I was so proud, even though I was too chicken to go. I hope this is a permanent trend because he will definitely need more of these tests in the future. What a good boy!

Wow!
Okay, first of all it sounds like you guys will be playing Wii fit with Bakes.
Secondly, I had one kid (@ six yrs. of age) cry 20 minutes home when he got his blood drawn and another that passed out once it was taken. He is such a blood drawing stud! I forsee a possible MD in your future!
I hope he improves quickly and continues to be the awesome little fireball we love!
I've never heard of a 2 year old with high cholesterol! Crazy. Hopefully the diet won't be too hard on him. Good luck!
Brian took Baker to get his blood drawn?! Wow, Rob would never be able to do that. He gets woozy when he thinks about immunizations, and he gets absolutely sick when he imagines ANYTHING that has to do with blood. I don't know how I'd handle our toddler getting his blood drawn, but there'd be no way out of it for me. But what a trooper Baker was! That's encouraging :) I bet he'll do fine on the new diet too.
