(I am mean like that.)
Well, today it involved Baker and applesauce. He refused to eat it at breakfast or for his snack. He lucked out at lunch because we went out and, no, I did not take the offending bowl of applesauce with us (but I did think about it). Anyway, at dinner, there it was yet again. We tried every trick in the book to get him to eat some but he would not take even a single bite.
Finally, he tells us that he doesn't like applesauce.
(Which is not true, by the way.)
So, Brian started to tell him about the Legend of Johnny Appleseed.
Do you remember watching that movie in like the fifth grade? Because I sure do. I fell asleep at my desk about half-way through it. We were also supposed to read the book but I didn't do that either. I was figuring that I could just watch the movie and still pass the test.
Because I was super studious like that.
(Boy, did that plan backfire.)
Anyway, to drive the Johnny Appleseed point home (was there a point?), and in a moment of pure parenting genius, I jumped up from the table, grabbed a pan from the cabinet, and stuck it on Baker's head.
And just what do you think happened next?
That's right!
He ate every bite!

With that big grin, the pan looks like a big, metal, coon-skin cap :) Smart parents!
O my heavens I want you to raise my children when I have them. You guys are just the coolest parents. Hope all is well. Love doug and kathryn Y.
Owen learned all about Johnny Appleseed this year. We even got to go on a tour of the apple orchards with him and he let Owen wear what he called his "pot hat". Which of course myself and several teachers got a nice giggle from!
Owen still won't eat his applesauce. Do think Bake's could show him how?
I didn't remember the Johnny Appleseed video, so I didn't get the significance of the pot on his head. Then, Corinne was reading this over my shoulder and said "Oh he's being Johnny Appleseed! I've seen that movie at school!" So I guess you were dead on with that one.
What a darling blog! Susan you are hillarious! And your kids are so cute. It was fun to see you all during the holidays.
